3 New Year Social Media Resolutions for Your Business

January 21, 2015 by Megan McDonald Leave a Comment

The first of the year inevitably brings a host of personal resolutions. Lose weight, save money, travel more- maybe read all those books on your growing to do list. But what about creating a set of goals for the new year and applying them to your business?

We know using social media as a tool to interact with your customer base is important, and growing in popularity. The statistics are pointing to a new way of communicating with the next generation.

Here at HuMu Media, we want to start your year out right with these three tips to help jump-start your company’s online presence:

 1. Create a conversation.

Your customers aren’t looking to be sold to 24/7 online. You’ve got their attention, and the fastest way to lose it is to turn your social media presence into a never ending advertisement.

You must create conversations with your customers. Try asking a question- it’s an easy way to open the door of communication. You may be surprised to find out exactly what your buyers are looking for.

 2. Make that conversation about someone else.

Nothing is guaranteed to hold a customer’s loyalty more than by showcasing your business’s core values and personality.

Does your business believe it’s important to help your neighbor? Show charity event posters online, post photos of your business donating volunteer time or money to a cause close to your heart. Many non-profits have limited marketing budgets, and any extra exposure you can give them by sharing their events online or calling attention to their activities would be appreciated. Win-win.

Does family come first? Try sharing fun family events happening in and around your local area! If you are a great source of information, people will eagerly await your posts about shared passions- and they’ll look twice at anything else you happen to post about your business.

3. Be persistent.

It’s easy to get all fired up with determination for the new year, but the important thing to remember is consistency. If you post three times a day every day for the next month, but fizzle out for the rest of the year, you will lose your customers for future conversations. No one wants to be bombarded with sales pitches, but if they don’t hear from you at all, they won’t have any reason to keep up with you.

Sit down and create a plan. If needed, you can always look into hiring a social media manager or marketer for your company- but make sure they know what’s important to you and your business, and the best way to allow your voice to shine through.

Great intentions are made every year, and we know that this year could be your best year yet! Build on these tips for a successful social media presence in the lives of your customers, and we promise you’ll not only see business interactions rise, but you’ll learn more about the best way to satisfy your customer’s wants and needs.

Happy New Year from us at HuMu Media!
